Vice President-elect JD Vance underwent a âlong-plannedâ minor surgery Friday after appearing at the Capitol earlier in the day for the Senateâs swearing-in ceremony.
“The Vice President-elect is having long-planned, minor sinus surgery and will be back at work tomorrow,” his spokesperson William Martin told Fox News.
The surgery reportedly took place at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC.
The Trump transition team did not immediately respond to The Postâs request for comment.
The medical procedure comes with less than three weeks to go before Vance is sworn-in as vice president on Jan. 20, when President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated.
At 40 years old, Vance will become the youngest vice president since Richard Nixon took office in 1953, also at age 40.
âI was proud to stand with â¦[Sen. Bernie Moreno] and [Dave McCormick] as they were sworn in to the US Senate. Congrats to them and to all of our new senators!â Vance wrote on X earlier in the day, referring to the new Republican senators from Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Vance, still a member of the Senate, has not announced what date he will resign from the upper chamber.
When he does, Republican Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine will be tasked with appointing a replacement for Vance.
The appointee will hold the Senate seat until a special election is held November.
The winner of that election will serve out the remainder of Vance’s term, which ends in 2028.
