ASICS continues to push its classic running silhouettes as the category sees a retro-revival, leaning into loudly technical aesthetics of the early to late 2000s. The GEL-KAYANO 20 was originally released as a long-distance running shoe in 2013, however the shoe has been the center of collaborations with designers and brands like Bodega, Kiko Kostadinov, JJJJound and HAL STUDIOS.
The standout colorway is the Neptune Blue and Black, dominated by an exuberant oceanic blue on the uppers, overlays, midsole, and outsole. Refreshing moments of light green are provided by air cushions embedded in the midsole and the ASICS word mark on the tongue, violet outlines emphasize the effect of the black overlays, making them appear almost as if they’re glowing.
The Black and Pure Silver colorway is a much more subdued counterpart to the other. A well-balanced palette of black uppers, silver overlay details and a mostly white sole provide a familiar template for casual styling. Hints of royal blue appear in sleek overlay outlines and on the ASICS wordmark on the tongue. The darker colorway is further accented with duo-tone black laces featuring silver edges.
ASICS’ two new GEL-KAYANO 20 colorways will be released on January 17 on the ASICS web store and select retailers.
