Good news! Wicked surpassed Mamma Mia as the biggest stage musical adaptation to hit movie theater box-offices just in time for you to rent the film at home.
That’s right, instead of paying $15/person to hold space for Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s take on Galinda, the Good Witch (the Gah is silent) and Elphaba, the so-called Wicked Witch of the West in theaters, you can now sing Popular at the top of your lungs watch Wicked from the comfort of your own living room. How? Well, Here’s everything you need to know.
What, exactly, can you watch?
Not only is the first part of the Wicked saga available to rent and buy as of December 31, but you’ll also have access a sing-a-long version and movie commentary provided by director John M. Chu, Grande, and Erivo. Plus, Wicked fans can enjoy of bonus footage in the form of deleted scenes and a 40-minute documentary.

Okay, how and when can we watch? On December 31, Wicked is officially available to rent ($19.99) or purchase ($29.99) on Amazon Prime. Of course, Amazon Prime isn’t the only platform. According to the Wicked movie website, you can also stream the movie through Xfinity, Apple TV+, Fandango at Home, Google Play, and YouTube.
Is the DVD available yet? Not yet! You’ll have to wait until February 4, 2025 to get your hands on a physical copy of Wicked.

Anything else? Without giving anything away, we can reveal Cynthia Erivo collaborated with Wicked composer Steven Schwartz on a new song for the second film. “I don’t know if you’re ready for it,” Erivo told Entertainment Weekly. “I mean, I love the song and I remember when we filmed it, the cast and crew were crying. So I don’t know. And I don’t know if that’s just because they were emotional that day or that’s what the song does.”
She continued, “I feel like the song is very, very special. I don’t want to give you any more than that. I have a feeling that even the title will move you.”
