Ahead of Lunar New Year festivities, New Balance is dropping a line-up of pared-back silhouettes in minimalist colorways that evoke the moon’s greyscale contours. The collection, which releases on New Year’s Day, comprises various models including the New Balance 1906R, 740, 1000 and the WRPD Runner.
The 1906R, a style based on the 2000s-era 1906 runner, boasts a gradient mesh upper covered in a composition of overlays for an extra technical appeal. A dark grey heel counter contrasts with the delicate white and gray details of the sneaker, while silver and reflective embellishments accentuate the design. Elsewhere, the 740 is characterized by a similar upper with a more tame approach to overlay details. The white mesh upper is decorated with tonal overlays and accompanied by a gradient midsole.
The 1000 reprises a silhouette originally conceived in 1999 with a much chunkier character compared to the 740. All-black materials feature silver outlines sparsely distributed across the uppers and the prominent arched midsole. Curvilinear leather overlays add a sleek visual effect and set the backdrop for a printed “1000” graphic on the lateral panel. Finally, the collection is finished with a gray and beige colorway of the WRPD Runner, the most contemporary model in the line-up. Enlarged N logos and thick, smoothed midsoles give the pair a futuristic sensibility.
The New Balance Lunar New Year collection is set for release on January 1, 2025, on the New Balance web store.
