A Canadian man allegedly attacked travelers and Transportation Security Administration officers inside a Miami airport Saturday — just a day after he was involved in mid-flight antics that forced a plane to do a U-turn, according to authorities and reports.
Cameron Dylan McDougall, 28, is facing battery charges after he first allegedly attacked a victim walking to his gate at Miami International Airport around 7 a.m., according to an arrest report obtained by Local 10 News.
The suspect didn’t utter a word when he approached the stranger from behind and “started punching him,” authorities alleged.
McDougall then allegedly started brawling with another man who tried to intervene before the foreigner walked to a TSA screening area and started picking a fight with officers, according to the arrest report.
He took swings at one officer as he grabbed his arm and then socked another officer three times in the face as the officer tried to stop him, the arrest report alleges. A witness jumped on McDougall to stop him as more police converged.
The day before his alleged assaults, the Canadian was involved in an in-flight disturbance that caused the plane he was on to turn back to Miami, a TSA spokesperson told ABC News on Monday.
More information about the incident was not immediately available.
While he was not reportedly under the influence of alcohol, it’s unclear if he was impaired by drugs, ABC News reported.
McDougall, who is from Toronto, was charged with three counts of battery, including on a police officer and on a person 65 or older.
“This unprovoked and brash physical attack against our employees, who work tirelessly to ensure the safety of the traveling public and the security of our aviation system, is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” TSA said in a statement to ABC News.
“TSA is working with law enforcement and will pursue independent enforcement actions against this individual.”
