Andrew Overstreet is readying himself to make his full-time debut as a NASCAR crew chief for the 2025 season. It’s an exciting step forward in his career, following a recent announcement aired by Carson Kvapil on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Overstreet is now set to lead the No. 1 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Xfinity Series under the banner of JR Motorsports. His journey to this role has been marked by a string of accomplishments during his tenure as a part-time crew chief last year. With a track record that includes a strong victory at Watkins Glen and multiple top-five and top-ten finishes, he enters this new role with high expectations.
Andrew Overstreet has worked with prestigious teams like Hendrick Motorsports and has developed a strong engineering background and technical skills. During the previous season, he served as the part-time crew chief for JR Motorsports’ No. 88 Chevrolet, a role that saw him collaborate with various drivers.
This included Carson Kvapil, Connor Zilisch, Bubba Pollard, and even the legendary Dale Earnhardt Jr., which speaks volumes about his ability to connect and perform well with a diverse range of talent. His engineering skills played a crucial part in achieving a win at Watkins Glen, backed by numerous top finishes.
“Andrew Overstreet is going to be the crew chief. He was [crew chief] for the fifth car, the No. 88, last year with me, [Connor] Zilisch, [Connor] Mosack, and [Bubba] Pollard. He’s moving up to full-time crew chief and Mardy [Lindley] is going to be Zilisch’s crew chief,” announced Carson Kvapil, highlighting the upcoming shifts in leadership roles at JR Motorsports (below).

The announcement signifies Overstreet’s arrival within a team known for nurturing racing talent. JR Motorsports, founded by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kelley Earnhardt Miller, and Rick Hendrick, has always been a competitive entity in NASCAR’s Xfinity Series. Their approach combines focusing on both competitive wins and developing promising drivers, making it an ideal environment for Overstreet to channel his skills as a full-time crew chief.
“I think for me, it’s a good fit. Me and Andrew [Overstreet] worked really well together last year, and I felt like we had a pretty good deal going there,” added Kvapil, sharing his satisfaction with continuing to work with Overstreet.
Meanwhile, the landscape for 2025 will also see Carson Kvapil taking on a full-time role alongside Overstreet, supported by Connor Zilisch, who is part of Trackhouse Racing’s development roster. Zilisch’s move is paired with an impressive past performance in select Xfinity Series races, positioning him as an emerging contender. Carson Kvapil brings his promising talent and family racing heritage to the table, enhancing Overstreet’s crew with a solid lineup for the upcoming season.
At the same time, Mardy Lindley will transition to the No. 88, working with Zilisch for the 2025 series. Linley’s move comes after a successful stint with Sam Mayer, collecting seven wins, numerous top-five finishes, and heightened competitiveness for JR Motorsports.
The 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series will return to The CW, marking its second year under this deal, an arrangement set to last through 2031. Viewers can look forward to extensive coverage of all 33 races, showcasing the new and reshuffled talents, including Overstreet’s leadership.
The 2025 season pushes off with the Daytona 300, an iconic race at the Daytona International Speedway on February 15, progressing through an intense schedule to close with the Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway. With multiple channels and platforms at work, expectations remain high for an eventful set of competitions.
