Ken Jeong has shared an emotional reaction to the script for the highly anticipated Community movie, hinting at an exciting return to the beloved sitcom’s universe.
Jeong, who will reprise his role as Spanish teacher Ben Chang, spoke about the film’s script in a recent interview. Reflecting on the experience of reading it, he said:
“It made me emotional, and just brought me right back, and that’s all I’m legally allowed to say,” Jeong revealed to TV Insider.
Though the movie is reportedly being “reworked,” Jeong acknowledged that the timeline for filming remains uncertain.
“There is a script, there is a plan. We just don’t know when [it will happen]. Once that’s agreed upon, it’ll be magical and real emotional,” he explained. Envisioning the moment production finally begins, Jeong added, “I think being on set experiencing that again [will be] so gratifying. Words can’t even express.”
Co-star Yvette Nicole Brown echoed Jeong’s sentiments in an interview with The Wrap last October, confirming the project is moving forward. “I think it’s being reworked, but we all have read an entire, full script. So a script exists. I heard that we have the big credit in LA that gives you money to make the film. So we’re definitely going to be doing it in LA,” she said.
Back in July, star Joel McHale was asked if Donald Glover was the reason for the movie’s delay to which he replied: “No! If it’s anybody’s fault, it’s my schedule on this one. It’s not his at all. He was available. No, no, no, no.”
Created by Dan Harmon, Community originally aired on NBC before concluding its six-season run on Yahoo! Screen in 2015. The comedy series, set at a quirky community college, has developed a passionate fanbase through its 110-episode journey. The upcoming movie is set to bring the beloved Greendale gang back together, delivering on the promise of “six seasons and a movie.”
