A stranger’s act of kindness while traveling on a train has left the internet teary-eyed.
Destiny Nkechi (@destinynkechi_), 24, was traveling in Taiwan when a stranger asked her to braid her hair. The sweet interaction between strangers garnered 273,381 likes and 5.3 million views on Instagram.
“I was with a friend on the train in Taiwan and my friend requested that I braid her hair, so I did and the woman who is shown in the video with me then requested that I braid her hair because she thought I did for my friend was beautiful,” Nkechi told Newsweek.
“I explained to her that I’m not the best, but she didn’t mind. She was really lovely although we didn’t speak the same language, she spoke Indonesian and I, English, but we used a translator.
“I also said to sit on the floor because it would make it easier for me to braid her hair which she didn’t mind because the trains in Taipei were exceptionally clean.”
In the video, Nkechi plaits the stranger’s hair and then shows the reaction of the train carriage. Nkechi then showed the end result: two perfect braids.
“Girlhood. So happy she felt comfortable enough to ask me cos’ I love random encounters like these,” she captioned the post.
One bald onlooker sitting across the carriage looked on, seemingly confused by the impromptu floor salon.
Trains in Taiwan are known for their exceptional cleanliness and efficiency. The Taipei Metro, in particular, has earned praise for its punctuality, modern amenities, and emphasis on public hygiene, making it a model for public transportation globally.
Social media users were moved by the touching moment between the women.
“This is precious and I love everything about it,” said one user.
“This is the girl energy we need,” said another.
“That’s how I learned to braid. I told a complete stranger in school I loved her braids and she showed me how,” commented one viewer.
“Watching interactions such as this makes my heart feel whole,” said another user.
Others noted how clean the train was.
