A pregnant woman has shared a video of her puppy’s magical reaction to feeling her unborn baby kick from inside the womb.
Jaden Williams from Tyler, Texas, is currently 21 weeks pregnant. “It is my first pregnancy, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’m loving it,” Williams told Newsweek.
Having her puppy Stormi by her side throughout has definitely been a big help.
“She is super cuddly, and it seems like she knows when I’m having a bad day because she won’t leave my side,” Williams said.
The story behind how Stormi became a part of Williams’ life is a classic tale of love at first sight. Williams and her husband were at an event in east Texas called Canton Trade Days, looking for things to buy for their new house. That’s when they saw her.
“We walked by the “Pet Land” area with no intention of getting a pet,” Williams said. “She was the last puppy of her litter and so energetic she caught our eye.”
Even then, they resisted at first. “We walked around the trade days for about an hour longer but couldn’t stop thinking about her, so we went back and took her home,” Williams said.
It’s not a decision they have ever regretted for a second, not least when it comes to pregnancy.
Research has highlighted the benefits a canine companion can have for pregnant women. In 2012, a study of more than 11,000 pregnant women, conducted by Liverpool University in partnership with Mars Petcare, found those who owned a dog were 50 percent more likely to achieve the recommended 30 minutes of exercise a day than those without dogs.
Stormi’s role is more than about putting Williams through her paces. She’s also on hand to share the joy of her imminent arrival, as a video posted to Williams’ TikTok @jaden_deleon showed.
“My baby was moving a lot, and my dog was sleeping next to me,” Williams said. “She ended up moving her head to my belly, so I was curious to see if she would feel it, so I pulled out my camera just in time!”
The footage captures Stormi initially dozing on Williams’ tummy with her eyes closed. Suddenly, she feels a kick beneath her. Stormi’s eyes open, a look of wonder playing across her face.
It was as if Stormi immediately knew what was happening and that soon she would have a sibling to play with.
“It was so special for me because I’ve been hoping they would have a great bond, and the fact that she recognized him was comforting,” Williams said.
The video went viral on TikTok. At the time of writing, it’s been watched 3.2 million times, with viewers taking to the comments section to voice their approval at what they saw play out.
“I’m crying,” one commenter wrote. “Labs are the best,” another person commented.
“The eyes killed me,” said one TikTok user.
Williams still has a bit longer to wait for her baby to be born, but Stormi’s reaction has filled her with joy and confidence about whatever comes next.
“She is super friendly and loves kids, so I know they will be best friends,” she said.
