A dead body was found lodged in the wheel well of a United Airlines plane when it arrived in Maui, Hawaii, on Christmas Eve, officials said.
Flt. 202 took off of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on Tuesday around 9:49 a.m. and arrived at Kahului Airport about 2:12 p.m., according to the airline and data from FlightAware.
The body was discovered in a landing-gear wheel well of the Boeing 787-10 — an area that can only be accessed from outside the plane, United Airlines told The Post.
Officials did not immediately have an explanation for the grisly discovery. Sources told local outlet Hawaii News Now that the body was male.
“At this time, it is not clear how or when the person accessed the wheel well,” the airline said, noting it is working with law enforcement on the incident.
The cops added in a statement, “The Maui Police Department is currently conducting an active investigation regarding a deceased individual discovered on an incoming flight from the mainland this afternoon.
“At this time, no further details are available.”
The airport is conducting operations as normal, and flights were not affected by the grim finding, state officials told the news site.
Separately, air travel was thrown into chaos Tuesday when American Airlines temporarily grounded all of its flights over technical issues. While flights were up and running again a few hours later, at one point during the day, FlightAware reported delays for nearly 900 flights across the country.
