Ahead of the 2024 Holiday season, RIMOWA has introduced a luxurious Mahjong Attaché, for the traditional tabletop game popular across the Asian diaspora and beyond.
With a high-end price of $37,200 USD, the RIMOWA Mahjong Attaché is no ordinary game set. For players with a taste for elegance, the attaché is made in the brand’s signature anodized grooved aluminum, rounded edges and equipped with an ergonomic handle for effortless portability.
Inside the case, a double-tiered storage system boasts a removable top tray, lined with foam and microfiber to protect the 144 tiles. The acrylic tiles are adorned with traditional hand-painted symbols and the RIMOWA wordmark, while three regular dice and one four-wind die are crafted out of aluminum with black lacquered symbols.
Built into the silver shell is a secure metallic lock system for added security. Finally, a complimentary red leather luggage tag comes with the attaché for a festive pop of color.
Though Mahjong finds its roots in 18th-century China, the game has become a worldwide phenomenon played by the wider Asian region and further spread by its diaspora. Throughout the 20th century, the game also became popular among American communities with origins in Europe and elsewhere.
Designed and produced in RIMOWA’s German factories, the piece is a functional collector’s item that marries RIMOWA’s craftsmanship with a global holiday tradition. The game set is available now at the official RIMOWA web store.
