A video showing a pet parent’s reaction when the vet told her the truth about her cat’s gender left viewers in stitches.
TikTok user @crystalklairee got her cat from a breeder who confidently told her that she was getting a female feline. Without questioning it, she went home with her new addition thinking it would be a “girl’s house.”
However, a trip to the vet for a checkup left her speechless. In her December 13 TikTok video, the vet calmly explained to her how orange cats and orange and white cats are typically male. About 81 percent of all orange cats are male, according to an article from Chewy. The vet then slowly broke the news and said that Snuckles was also male.
Shocked at what she heard, she immediately said “Excuse me?” and continued on by asking “What do you mean?!” Her mind raced while processing the information. She was mixed with different emotions—surprised, heartbroken, confused. Everything she thought about her had been wrong since she got Snuckles.
The caption reads: “The breeder 100% told me the cat is a girl mateeee.”
Thankfully, Snuckles is healthy and the owner has nothing to worry about, aside from the initial shock. She said in the clip: “I still love my cat.”
The vet then explained why he was suspicious about the cat’s gender. For being about five months old, Snuggles is very big. Female cats tend to be smaller. Mix that in with his color and the vet knew to check.
With over 1.8 million views on TikTok, viewers flooded the comment section with laughter and shared similar stories.
“At least Snuggles is gender neutral lol,” wrote a viewer.
Another pointed out: “Omg your reaction is priceless.”
A third person said: “The way he was creasing at your reaction to finding out he’s a boy love it.”
Newsweek reached out to @crystalklairee via TikTok for additional comment.
This wouldn’t be the first time an owner learned their cat’s gender was different from what they were originally told. Believe it or not, determining a cat’s gender isn’t always so obvious, especially when they are young kittens, an article from Catster reported. This is due to male cats not having visible testicles until they are about six to 10 weeks old.
