As Christmas quickly approaches, it is no surprise that we’ve seen pets getting into seasonal mischief this week. From pet cam footage revealing why one family’s tree topper keeps going missing to a Christmas tree attracting an unexpected feline visitor.
Newsweek readers have also been sending funny and adorable videos and pictures of their pets for our weekly Newsweek Pet of the Week line-up.
If you think your pet could be our next Pet of the Week, follow the instructions at the end of this story to get involved.
Winner
This week’s Pet of the Week winner is Brody, a golden retriever puppy who gained viral attention for his impressive skill—ringing the doorbell when he’s ready to come indoors.
At just 3 months old, Brody mastered this adorable trick, thanks to his owner, New York realtor Amanda Lavender.
She installed the doorbell at the perfect height for the pint-sized pup, making it easy for him to signal his comings and goings.
Lavender initially taught Brody the trick to simplify outdoor routines and filmed a video of his clever antics to share with his breeder. But the heartwarming clip quickly gained attention online, amassing millions of views on Instagram.
“I taught [him] to ring a doorbell to come in or go out,” Lavendar told Newsweek. “I then videoed it to show the breeder, and it went viral over the summer,”
Finalists
Our first finalist this week is Joele Whalen’s cat named Mr. A lively and lovable feline, Whalen adopted Mr. from a shelter, only to discover at the vet that “she” was actually a “he.”
A Russian Blue breed cat with a black nose, Whalen said that Mr.’s quirky personality matches his unique looks. “He’s crazy funny always playing and sleeps on his back,” the Whalen told Newsweek.
Our next finalist this week is 6-year-old Kelpie cross Gordon Rex.
Living with owner Neil R. Yeomans, he may look tough, but his owner said that this pup has a big heart. “[He is] full of muscle and love,” Yeomans told Newsweek.
Last, but not least this week, is Buddy and Sadie, two dogs that are best friends but have delightfully contrasting personalities.
“Buddy is an 11-year-old Bluetick Coon Hound who loves his sister and loves to sleep the day away, [while] Sadie is an energetic 3-year-old German Shepard Labrador who loves everything and everyone,” owner Brandon Zacharias told Newsweek.
Together, the pair are a big part of their owner’s life, and whether it’s Buddy’s peaceful naps or Sadie’s enthusiastic antics, this lovable duo keeps the household full of joy.
