In the years Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have been married, they have established their holiday traditions. And one annual favorite includes their own take on a famous Italian dish.
As Stefani and Shelton, who tied the knot in 2021, gear up for their fourth Christmas together as a married couple, it seems like they’ll keep this tradition alive — if the No Doubt singer’s past comments are any indication.
In a 2023 interview with Entertainment Tonight, the “Hollaback Girl” hitmaker, 55, explained that she, Shelton, and her three kids enjoy putting their spin on a dish called the timpano dome.
“We started off by always trying to find something that wasn’t a tradition — like, let’s try something different, try something new,” Stefani said. “We stumbled across this dish called the timpano dome… it’s basically like a lasagna but it’s in this dome formed either with bread or a pasta. We started doing that a few years ago and now that’s the thing.”
As 2024 will mark Stefani And Shelton’s fourth Christmas together as a family — the “Don’t Speak” singer shares sons Kingston, 18, Zuma, 16, and Apollo, 10, with her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale — they have managed to keep this tradition going … even if their version of the dish may deviate from traditional Italian recipes.
“Probably some Italians might get mad about this, because typically it would be a pasta wrapped around it, but we started doing a pizza dough because it tastes yummy,” Stefani said at the time. “Maybe I’ll make the dough myself this year — which would be a lot on Christmas day… But I might actually do it the day before.”
Actor Stanley Tucci is also a fan of the timpano dish, especially as the dish was the focal point of his 1996 movie Big Night. However, in an October 2024 interview with E! News, Tucci shared he doesn’t eat it with his family for Christmas dinner.
“Unless my mother and father come, there won’t be [any timpano],” he said. “My wife hates it. No one likes it, except me and my son Nicolo. Huge amount of effort for just two people.”
