A Kansas-based company has issued a voluntary recall of certain salt products due to the potential presence of foreign material.
Compass Minerals America Inc., a leading producer of essential minerals, announced its recall for a variety of products on November 9, according to the the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The products affected included bulk salt shipped in one metric ton totes; 50lb bags of special purity granulated food-grade salt; and 44lb bags of Sifto HyGrade salt.
The impacted products were distributed to Maine, Indiana and Wisconsin in the U.S., as well as to customers in Canada.
The FDA subsequently issued a Class II risk classification for the products on December 13.
The FDA states that a Class II recall refers to a situation in which the use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.
Newsweek contacted Compass Minerals America Inc. for comment via email outside of working hours on Monday.
Customers have been advised to stop using the affected products immediately. Consumers with questions or concerns can visit the FDA or Compass Minerals websites for further details.
The lot codes of the affected products include the following: 3240923, 3240924, 3241011, 3241022, 3241029, 3241102.

Ed Dowling, the company’s president and chief executive, added: “Our focus on sustainability is a fundamental part of who we are and how we operate. This honor reflects the hard work and dedication of our teams as we strive to positively impact our communities, foster environmental stewardship, and uphold strong governance practices.”
The list, created by Newsweek in collaboration with Statista, is based on an analysis of publicly available environmental, social and governance performance data and insights from an independent survey of 26,000 U.S. residents.
