Joey Gase Motorsports has made a big move by securing veteran racer Greg Van Alst to drive their No. 35 Chevrolet Camaro for the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series season. The announcement was made at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, marking a huge moment in both the team and driver’s careers as they prepare to compete in the majority of the season’s events. This collaboration brings a seasoned driver with extensive ARCA Menards Series experience to the team, positioning them for a promising season ahead.
Greg Van Alst, 43, brings a robust racing pedigree to Joey Gase Motorsports. His motorsport journey began in the ARCA Menards Series, where he debuted in 2002 and returned with vigor in 2021. Over 53 events in this series, Van Alst claimed a victory, secured five top-five finishes, and 26 top-10 finishes.
His 2022 season ended with a respectable fifth-place finish in the championship standings. While the driver has had partial experience in the Xfinity Series, Van Alst’s reset will start at the Daytona International Speedway in early 2025, where he aims to capitalize on his prior success at this venue.
Van Alst’s tenure in the NASCAR Xfinity Series remains limited, with just seven races under his belt and a top finish of 26th at Martinsville Speedway. However, his substantial experience in ARCA is expected to facilitate his transition to NASCAR’s demanding racing.
Speaking about his new role, Van Alst is enthusiastic about the year ahead via a press release:
“I am thrilled about this opportunity to compete in most of the NASCAR Xfinity Series season with Joey Gase Motorsports with Scott Osteen. This is an essential step in my racing career, and with a tunneled vision focused on the Xfinity Series, I believe I can step up to the plate and not only be competitive but also produce some strong finishes that can propel our team into the spotlight.
“I’m ready to get to work and make the most out of the opportunity to make my NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at Daytona in about two months.”
Joey Gase Motorsports, which recently underwent rebranding after the departure of co-owner Patrick Emerling, is harnessing Van Alst’s potential to boost its performance trajectory. The racing team, now co-owned by Scott Osteen, has historically struggled to maintain steady success within the competitive NASCAR Xfinity Series. With only one top-10 finish achieved in 133 starts, the addition of Van Alst is a decision aimed at revitalizing the team.
Joey Gase, co-owner and active driver, is optimistic about the acquisition of Van Alst.
“Scott Osteen, myself and our entire Joey Gase Motorsports team are extremely excited to have Greg and his partner be a part of our team in 2025. It’s crazy how things happen and work out sometimes. Greg was in our shop in 2022 when our team started pulling down his ARCA car.
“Whoever thought he would be driving for us a few years down the road, plus we both have good taste in car numbers. We became good friends at the track the last few years in the Xfinity garage. We would throw questions at each other and race each other with respect on the track. Now, we’re joining forces with one mission. I’m looking forward to getting started at Daytona.”
