Despite a dismal first season, the New England Patriots will reportedly stick by new head coach and former star linebacker Jerod Mayo.

According to NFL Insider Dianna Russini, Patriots owner Robert Kraft has privately confirmed that the team will give their new HC time to work things out with the team.
Despite rumors that New England might jettison their coach after a season full of losses, much as the Chicago Bears did with Matt Eberflus and the New York Jets with Robert Saleh, it seems that Kraft has a little more patience (or possibly loyalty) with Mayo.
“While there hasn’t been a public vote of confidence for the head coach from the Kraft family, Patriots leadership is standing by Mayo,” Russini wrote. “Just as discussions about the next NFL hiring cycles heat up, team owner Robert Kraft has privately assured those close to him that he’s committed to giving his first-year head coach the time and resources he needs to grow into the role.”
That’s a considerable amount of faith in Mayo, considering that, as of Week 15, the Patriots have a wincingly bad 3-10 record and hold last place in the AFC East division. With four games left on the schedule, it is possible that the Pats can climb out of the bottom ring over the Jets (also at 3-10), but it is undeniably a poor showing for the new coach.
Even Mayo has acknowledged this, although he is presenting a positive spin on things. In a recent appearance on The Greg Hill Show, the coach admitted that his first season in charge of the team was “trying” but that he firmly believed their 2025 season would be a big improvement.

“You’re gonna go through these trying times…the mark of a true leader is being able to navigate this and knowing that you’re going the right way,” Mayo said. “And I truly believe that we are going the right way. In the short term, it may be disappointing, but in the long term we’re doing it the right way.”
“We’ll 100% be a better football team next year,” Mayo continued.
At least in public, Mayo is presenting calmness despite an uncontestably bad first season. But, given that he seems to have permission from the Kraft family to run through some mistakes right now, that makes sense.
