EXCLUSIVE: Bobby Moresco, who won an Oscar for the screenplay he co-wrote for Crash, was already aboard to write the script for car racing biopic Bugatti, but he will now also direct the project.
The film will see Moresco continuing his collaboration with Italian producer Andrea Iervolino (Ferrari).
Bugatti is slated to film late next year in Italy and France for Iervolino’s new banner, The Andrea Iervolino Company, and is on course to feature a U.S. and international cast and be English-language. Moresco is scripting with Amanda Moresco and in collaboration with Soraya Azzabi.
The movie is set to tell the life story of Bugatti, the founder of the iconic automobile company, who was known for transforming the automotive world with his creative genius and relentless dedication to design and technology. The Italian-born French designer and manufacturer also designed aeroplane engines and was no stranger to tragedy: Bugatti’s son, Jean, was killed on August 11 1939 at the age of 30 while testing a Bugatti car near the family’s factory HQ in Germany.
Watch on Deadline
Moresco and Iervolino previously collaborated on Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend and are currently in production in Italy on Maserati: The Brothers, which Bobby Moresco also directs. Maserati: The Brothers is starring Anthony Hopkins, Michele Marrone, Andy Garcia and Jessica Alba. Moresco had been previously announced for Iervolino film Ferrari Vs Mercedes but we understand he isn’t currently attached to direct that.
