Honestly, it took me a minute to realize Angelina Jolie went barefoot on The Tonight Show.
On December 5, Jolie returned to the late night talk show circuit for the first time in 10 years—and couldn’t find comfortable enough shoes to mark the occasion. However, it took Jimmy Fallon pointing out her lack of footwear for me to even notice the 49-year-old actor was missing a key part of any ensemble. It turns out, all Jolie needed to promote her new film, Maria, was a classic black boat neck dress and a black cherry pedicure.
Of course, there was a practical reason for Jolie’s decision to ditch Carrie Bradshaw’s favorite accessory altogether. “I broke my toe yesterday, and I tried to find a comfortable shoe, but I just decided to not,” she told Fallon.
Perhaps it was the elegant way Jolie was sitting—with her feet arched as if held up by an invisible heel like a standard issue Barbie—or her sheer confidence that allowed the power move to go unnoticed. Either way, I’m asking my pedicurist to give me the Jolie next time I get my nails done—and luckily for you, I know exactly what that entails.
It appears Angelina Jolie kept the same nude manicure and black cherry pedicure she wore to the Gotham Awards on December 2, courtesy of celebrity nail stylist Elle Gerstein. For that occasion, Gerstein used Light & Shadow’s sheer gel couleur in the shade “Maybe…” on Jolie’s nails, opting for the Après shade “Never Bordeaux You” for her toes.
Described as a “black cherry pedicure” in a press release, the key is to find a wine red shade so deep it’s nearly nearly black. You know what that means—it’s “Wicked” by Essie season. More of an O.P.I. girl? Go for “I Sing in Color.”
Angelina Jolie loved her black cherry pedicure so much she continued to rock open-toed shoes throughout the week. On December 3, Jolie hit up Atelier Jolie in a chic oversized grey cardigan and black platform sandals, despite the 30 degree weather in New York City. Worth it.
