EXCLUSIVE: Universal International Studios (UIS) has shaken up its team with two promotions.
CFO Rob Howard has become Executive Vice President and Kelsey Balance has been upped to EVP Global Scripted Series at the Day of the Jackal studio.
Howard will expand his oversight beyond finance to the overall operational strategies and its production companies to support the studio’s international ambitions. Balance will take charge of the global scripted series team, developing shows for all platforms. Howard has been with UIS for five years working across finance. He joined shortly after Balance, who used to be Head of Programming at NBCUniversal’s comedy streaming venture Seeso.
Both will report to Beatrice Springborn, who said: “Rob’s deep understanding of the global market, paired with his operational acumen, is invaluable, and Kelsey’s creative vision and global development insight is unparalleled. With Rob and Kelsey stepping into expanded leadership roles, we are well positioned to strengthen our international ambitions and further support our co-production partners’ goals.”

UIS makes the likes of Peacock-Sky’s Day of the Jackal, which just landed a second season, Netflix’s One Day and Channel 4-Peacock’s We Are Lady Parts. Howard said it currently produces more than 30 series across 16 platforms.
Sky announced earlier today that The Day of the Jackal has become the biggest new series to ever launch on the platform.
The promotions come a few months after Deadline revealed UIS studio boss Roma Khanna was exiting after just six months.
