Anonymous Content is still seeking international expansion but is conscious of the state of the economy.
International boss David Davoli said “some conversations” are taking place in Italy and his team is “still looking at Germany as a possibility” in terms of expansion.
But he stressed that Anonymous is very cognisant of where the stretched market is at and how hard it has been to grow over the past couple of years during the contraction period. The studio has ventures in the likes of the UK, Spain, Latin America and France, which it approaches in the form of creative partnerships rather than traditional M&A. Davoli was speaking alongside some of these creative partners, including AC Chapter One boss Patrick Spence, Anonymous Federation MD Rosalie Cimino and Spain CEO Beatriz Campos.
“I’d love to move into Italy in some way so we are having some conversations there but we are not growing as robustly as we had thought we would a couple of years ago,” Davoli told a Content London panel. “You have to look at the way the economy is shifting so we are growing more slowly and it really has to be the right partnership with a partner who shares the same values and is based on a certain auteur-led model.”

“Idealistic world”
With financing hard to come by, Davoli floated an “idealistic world” in which projects are almost totally put together by ventures and partners of the Disclaimer studio. While Anonymous isn’t quite there with this “strange vision,” Davoli said there are “shades of truth” to it.
“Patrick [Spence] can get a pre-sale in South Africa, Spain the Nordics and France, all internally,” he added. “Everyone here knows the clients in their territory intimately so we have real intel into six of the biggest markets in the world.”
The Anonymous label bosses backed up Davoli’s proclamations. Campos and Anonymous Brazil head Barbara Teixeira reiterated their desire for 2025 to be the year they land a show together, while Spence said he is “actively pursuing an opportunity in Australia” due to a partnership with Brouhaha Entertainment, which Anonymous struck a JV with a few weeks back.
