The sequel to Moana has finally arrived in theaters. But is there a Moana 2 post-credits scene? If you’ve been wondering, you’ve come to the right place.
First, the good news. The follow-up to one of our all-time favorite Disney films truly delivers on addictive new songs, compelling storytelling, and vitally, some much appreciated Hei Hei screen time.
But is there a Moana 2 post-credits scene?
Ok, so following that dramatic Moana 2 ending, we can confirm that the film does in fact feature a credits scene. But hear us out, because it’s not technically post-credits.
Instead, there’s a mid-credits scene that serves the very same purpose—so make sure you stick around for it!
The Moana 2 mid-credits scene focuses on Nalo (God of storms), Matangi (controller of bats), and Tamatoa (our shiny villain needs no introduction), and seems to hint at what we can expect from Moana 3 if and when it arrives.
While Disney have yet to confirm anything, we can’t help but feel like there’s still a lot more of this story to be told. Given that Moana 2 was initially meant to be a Disney+ series we also feel pretty confident that we’ll be getting some more Moana content eventually, whether in the form of another film or perhaps even a series.
Either way, there’s plenty of loose ends from this scene that need tying up!
The Moana 2 mid-credits scene, explained
In the second film, we see underwater goddess Matangi helping Moana and Maui escape villain Nalo’s malicious intentions by leading them to the island of Motufetū. Given that Nalo had grand plans of sinking the mystical island forever, he’s not pleased by this.
In the Moana 2 mid-credits scene we therefore see Nalo plotting his revenge on Moana and Maui, with him determined to make them pay for reuniting the people to the depths of the ocean. In this scene we also get an update of where things are at with Matangi.
While lifting the island back up from the bottom of the ocean should have in theory freed her, in the mid-credits we learn that Nalo has used his powers to keep Matangi trapped, with him aggressively questioning her after realizing Moana and Maui succeeded in defying him.
Matangi lies to him and insists she doesn’t know how the pair lifted the curse, but we can’t help but worry about how our girl’s gonna get out of this situation.
Oh, and while this is all happening Tamatoa, that giant evil crab from the first Moana film, also makes an appearance and explains his shared desire for revenge against Moana and Maui, too.
The trio we never saw coming, the scene wraps with Nalo saying that they’re just getting started with their vengeance. Oh snap!
So needless to say, you can understand why many fans are convinced that we’ll be getting further news of a Moana 3 in the works. Watch this space!
