Police arrested an employee at San Francisco’s Fairmont Hotel on Tuesday for allegedly bringing a loaded firearm to work during Vice President Kamala Harris‘ stay, ABC News reported.
The U.S. Secret Service detained the man as he attempted to enter the hotel with the weapon at around 7 a.m., according to the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD).
The weapon was detected by magnetometers set up by the Secret Service, according to the SFPD.
Officers seized the firearm and the employee was charged with carrying a concealed firearm and carrying a loaded firearm in public, the police department said.
Newsweek has contacted the SFPD for comment outside of normal working hours.
A background investigation found that the man had an arrest warrant pending in Tarrant County, Texas. The charge there is not known.
The SFPD said the man had recently moved from Texas, where it is legal to carry a concealed firearm.
Harris was staying at the hotel with her husband, Doug Emhoff, after the pair travelled back from a vacation in Hawaii, according to ABC News. The couple checked out Tuesday afternoon.
Police do not believe the man posed any credible threat and did not release his name.
Harris, who is from Oakland, California, served as San Francisco’s District Attorney between 2004 and 2011, before becoming California Attorney General and then launching a political career.
This was Harris’ first visit to San Francisco since her election loss earlier in November.
This is a breaking story. More to follow.
