The Liga MX Apertura quarterfinals continue on Thursday with a pair of matchups including the game between Monterrey and Pumas UNAM. This is the 4 vs 5 matchup of the quarterfinals with UNAM as the No. 4 seed and Monterrey as the No. 5 seed.

Monterrey ended the regular season with a 2-1 win over Leon. Edison Gutierrez and Sergio Canales scored goals while Lucas Ocampos was red-carded in the 85th minute, one of three red cards at the end of the match.
Pumas defeated Mazatlan 1-0 in the team’s last match, with Guillermo Martinez Ayala scoring on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute. The team had a 10-5 advantage in total shots and a 5-0 advantage in shots on target.
These teams last met in October, playing to a 0-0 draw despite Monterrey taking 16 shots to Pumas’ eight shots.
Both of these teams ended the regular season with identical records: 31 points from nine wins and four draws. The only difference was that Pumas was a +8 in goal differential while Monterrey was only a +7.
Following this game, San Luis and Tigres UANL head to Estadio Olimpico Universitario in Mexico City on Dec. 1 for the second leg of this matchup.
