A deranged San Fransico man was set to be sentenced Wednesday for a heinous five-hour attack on his wife — where he hanged her dog from the staircase because the protective pet tried to intervene.
James Paul Jolivette Jr., 36, was convicted in San Mateo County Superior Court on charges of torture, use of a dangerous weapon, felony residential burglary, domestic violence, threats and felony animal cruelty, according to SFist.
Prosecutors said on June 5, 2022, Jolivette broke into his estranged wife’s home, accused her of having an affair and beat her with a belt for five hours while their two daughters, ages 12 and 4, were home, according to the San Francisco-based publication.
The couple had been married for 11 years at the time, but according to local station KRON4, “they lived in separate homes because their relationship was strained from prior domestic violence.”
During the torturous afternoon, the woman’s French bulldog tried to intervene on her behalf.
Jolivette angrily scooped up the pooch, tied a noose around the dogs’ neck and hung it from a stair rail before the woman eventually convinced him to set the injured Frenchie free, according to the outlet.
The dog survived, but Jolivette continued his sadistic torture, according to statements made by the DA’s office obtained by KRON4.
“Over the course of approximately five hours, the defendant whipped, punched and kicked the victim, threatened her, made her kneel facing a wall and then forced her to massage his back and feet while laughing about what he was doing to her,” the DA’s office wrote.
The daughters could hear their mother crying and screaming as she pleaded, “I’m not lying to you,” according to the report from KRON4.
The deadbeat dad pled no contest at an August hearing, according to a tweet from the San Matteo County District Attorney’s Office.
Jolivette now faces up to 10 years behind bars for his crimes.
