Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb shared a hilarious and candid rant on Today about why they struggle maintaining boundaries with their kids.
Kotb shared that she felt like her parents were better about keeping boundaries during her childhood, meanwhile, “Our kids are like all in our stuff.”
“No we don’t,” Bush Hager agreed. She then revealed that her daughter recently coined a new nickname for her at home. For those keeping track, this is in addition to the bizarre Kardashian nickname she used to call her.
“Boundaries are a little loose in our house,” she admitted to Kotb. “For example, Mila has named me graham cracker for her cat. That’s her cat name for me, her cat calls me graham cracker. And it’s because I am crusty, spiky, sometimes a little edgy, but also sometimes sweet.” She also mentioned that her husband’s nickname is Grumpy.
Kotb laughed as Bush Hager revealed that just the night before, her daughter “came in and dropped the cat” on her husband’s face while they were in bed.
“Mind you, with the lights off,” Bush Hager added. “[She] dropped the cat on Henry’s face and she scratched him. And Henry said, ‘Ow Mila, come on man. We’re trying to sleep.’”
That was enough for Kotb to announce they “need to lock it down.”
“Are we really preparing them for the real world if all we’re doing is yes-ing them?” she asked Bush Hager.
“Believe me, I don’t know,” Bush Hager responded. “I just try to ignore them as much as possible. I said to Henry, please close that door so I don’t have to listen to their voices for one more minute.” She also told Kotb that the kids are not allowed in her room “after a certain time.”
Kotb certainly agreed. She revealed that she recently “almost cried” when she found out the lock on her bedroom door isn’t working because her kids barged in while she was trying to relax in the bath.
“We don’t have good boundaries,” Kotb confessed during the broadcast.
