Drew Barrymore and Gayle King are getting candid about their sleeping habits. On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, King revealed why she prefers to sleep commando.
The two women kicked off the broadcast with a conversation about the benefits of sleeping nude. According to a report by VeryWell, stripping down for bedtime can help regulate your body temperature, put you in a deeper sleep, and even reduce stress.
King, for her part, doesn’t sleep completely naked.
“I always sleep in a big old ratty T-shirt but I don’t like wearing underwear,” she confessed. “Because I like to feel the breeze down there. At night, I do.”
Barrymore, who shares two daughters with her ex-husband Will Kopelman, added that she used to tell her kids to do the same thing.
“I used to say to the girls — they’ll be so horrified by this — but I was like, ‘You must let it breathe. Let’s take a breathing break,’” she recalled. “With those diapers on you all the time? Nuh-uh. We’re just gonna go on a walkabout and whatever happens happens. And yes, women should feel the breeze.”
All eyes turned to Barrymore when King asked, “Since we’ve never slept together, Drew, how do you sleep at night?” to which the talk show host quipped, “Not yet, Gayle.”
The duo playfully joked about what those headlines would look like.
“That would be a story. Can you imagine? ‘Drew Barrymore and Gayle King Are Dating.’ That would be a story,” King said, before clarifying, “We’re both alert and available.”
Barrymore then added, “And very much straight, as it turns out.”
The 50 First Dates actress concluded the segment by revealing the only time she gets to sleep in the nude.
“Here’s how I roll. If no one’s in the house, including the kids — they go and stay at their dad’s for the night — I will sleep in the nude,” Barrymore said. “I love it. I lock all the doors and I just parade around like a little J Bird.”
