President-elect Donald J. Trump’s choice for ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, has spent at least two years hawking a cartoon “Kids Guide to President Trump” book that lavishes praise on Mr. Trump.
The book, sold by a company Mr. Huckabee co-founded, is promoted as a way for parents and grandparents to help children understand Mr. Trump’s appeal. “Our children and grandchildren deserve to understand the truth about President Trump, what made him a great president, and his plans to take back the White House in 2024,” according to a website for the book.
Excerpts posted online show the book criticizes “socialist democrat policies,” and praises Mr. Trump for renegotiating trade deals. It seeks to explain Mr. Trump’s accomplishments in kid-friendly language, with sections like “What are taxes and why is it better when they are low?”
In August, The Wichita Eagle newspaper reported that the book also supports the execution of drug smugglers, and that it describes illegal immigration as “when people come to take money and jobs, without paying taxes, sneak in to sell drugs, commit other crimes and, in the worst case, commit acts of terrorism.”
Mr. Huckabee’s company, Learn Our History LLC, publishes similar kids’ guides to Elon Musk, President Biden, and “fighting indoctrination.” It offers the Trump guide — along with another book about Mr. Trump, “The Kids Guide to the Courage of the President” — for just $2 in shipping charges. After that, the company says it will start sending books about other subjects, and automatically bill the customer’s credit card for $34 a month plus tax.
Neither Mr. Huckabee nor the company replied to questions. Mr. Trump’s latest financial disclosures, filed in August, show no indication that he receives income from these books.
If confirmed by the Senate, Mr. Huckabee, a former governor of Arkansas, would assume a crucial foreign post at a time of crisis in the Middle East. Mr. Trump has promised to bring the war in Gaza to a swift close, and said in a statement that Mr. Huckabee would “work tirelessly to bring about peace in the Middle East!”
Mr. Huckabee, who was the governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007, ran for president in 2008 and 2016. His daughter, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, has followed in his footsteps to become the governor of Arkansas and previously served as Mr. Trump’s White House press secretary.
