Lucy Liu, let me be the first to apologize. We should’ve been celebrating your Red One press tour looks since your Zuhair Murad Couture moment back on November 3. I mean, how did we miss this stunning red carpet appearance?
There’s a lot to applaud here, between the ethereal bust piece, the sequin-embellished bodice, and the inky black train, which balanced the volume of the sculptural detail. The styling, too, was a masterclass: the 55-year-old skipped the statement jewelry, and instead adorned her hair with fresh white flowers. Her twisted updo, created by stylist Enzo Angileri, echoes the curves of her couture gown but doesn’t compete with it—no easy feat, but one which Liu makes look effortless.
A pair of subtly sparkling Roxanne Assoulin earrings, a fuchsia lip, and long lashes takes this elegant look over the top into the Best Dressed category.
Of course, a press tour for a film called Red One wouldn’t be complete without an outfit which could be called “the red one.” For the London photocall for the action-comedy-holiday film, Liu, who works with stylist Sarah Slutsky, opted for an on-theme jumpsuit from Greta Constantine. The vibrant red one-piece includes a neck tie, which the actor styled in a half-bow. (A full bow would’ve been a little too on the nose, no?)
Later that same day, at a screening event also in London, Liu amped up the drama in hot pants, semi-sheer tights, and a bustier top with a sheer lace overlay. She finished off the ensemble with a wide-lapel tuxedo jacket that tapered at the waist and flared over the hips. A demure, half-up hairstyle and her lace collar kept the look from veering off into costume territory; in fact, I anticipate this will be thee outfit to replicate this New Year’s Eve. No pants is the new pants, in case you haven’t heard.
Which brings us to this week. For the New York premiere of Red One on November 11, Lucy Liu wore a gold Marchesa gown featuring a plunging deep-V neckline and impeccable pleats at the shoulders and hips.
Especially in a shimmery metallic fabric, this seemingly simple silhouette will show every uneven stitch, every fabric ripple—so it’s always impressive when a star like Liu wears a gown that’s tailored to the nines. Once again, the actor makes the difficult work look effortless. And we can’t forget the mismatched sun and moon Azza Fahmy earrings! They’re the perfect playful touch, squaring this timeless look firmly in the year 2024.
Red One hits theaters in the US on November 15, meaning this press tour will sadly come to a close shortly. However, per IMDb, Liu has three projects in post-production. Hopefully, there’s another red carpet spring in the future for Lucy Liu and her glam team. I promise not to miss the next one, Lucy!
