The Chicago Bears started the season off in a promising way. Behind rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, the team went 4-2 in their first six games. However, the last three outings have led to descent within the locker room.
More news: Bears Make Massive Change by Firing Coach to Help Rebound Season
The Bears are currently on a three-game losing skid, and Bears head coach Matt Eberflus revealed that big changes were going to be made to help the team rebound. Initially, Eberflus did not reveal what those changes were, but one change was finally reported this morning.
Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron was relieved of his duties, and passing game coordinator Thomas Brown was promoted to the position. Though the change might have been out of nowhere, players were the ones who reportedly approached Eberflus and Bears general manager Ryan Poles to make the change.
Even worse, there are veteran players who also requested that Williams be benched for Tyson Bagent.

According to ESPN’s Waddle and Silvy, “After talking to a few people with knowledge of the situation, players went to Matt Eberflus & Ryan Poles asking them to make a change at offensive coordinator. There have also been a few veteran players requesting Bagent starts.”
Though the players who brought these concerns will be anonymous, their request to have Waldron removed from being the offensive coordinator was granted.
Eberflus did not allow the second concern to be granted, as he stated on Monday that Willaims would remain the starter for now. It’s hard not to understand why players want him to be benched considering he has regressed from the first six weeks of the season to the last three.
In Weeks 1 through 6, Williams threw for 1,317 yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions. In the last three games, he has only thrown 468 yards. Where once the rookie quarterback was showing flashes of brilliance, he has been stunted in the Bears’ last three outings.
Williams is still a rookie, after all, and should be given the opportunity to grow through playing. However, the Bears are losing ground in the NFC and could be out of a playoff spot if they continue to lose games.
The hope is that Brown can help revive an offense that appeared to be dynamic through the first quarter of the season. Should that not happen and Williams continue to struggle, the organization might have to explore sitting the rookie for the rest of 2024.
This is just speculation but the Bears appear to be in panic mode right now.
