In the weeks leading up to the 2024 presidential election, high-profile celebrity endorsements have trickled in—from pop divas like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift for Kamala Harris to frequent podcasting partners Elon Musk and Joe Rogan for Donald Trump. And while the Republican presidential candidate can boast the support of Hulk Hogan and Dennis Quaid, the Harris campaign undeniably has more starpower. As such, multiple celebrities have been enlisted to front political ads for the vice president. Oscar-winning filmmaker Spike Lee teamed up with Grammy-winning musician Stevie Wonder back in October, while recent commercials featuring Will Ferrell and Julia Roberts have gone viral closer to election day. Ahead, a look at all of Harris’s celebrity campaign ads.
Marc Anthony
In mid-October, weeks before insult comedian Tony Hinchcliffe would roast Puerto Ricans at Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally, Marc Anthony declared his support for the opposing side. “Even though some have forgotten, I remember what it was like when Donald Trump was president,” Anthony begins in the video, titled “Recuerdo.” “I remember what he did and said about Puerto Rico, about our people. I remember after Hurricane Maria devastated our island, Trump blocked billions in relief while thousands died.”
Anthony continued, “I remember when our families lacked clean water and electricity, Trump threw paper towels and called Puerto Rico dirty and poor. I was not surprised. Because I also remember when he launched his campaign by calling Latinos criminals and rapists.” He also implored voters to “remember what the United States represents and stands for: Regardless of where we’re from.”
George Clooney + Julia Roberts
Clooney and Roberts, who have starred together in films like Ocean’s Eleven and Ticket to Paradise, have each narrated Kamala-centric ads for Vote Common Good, a progressive evangelical group. The his-and-hers videos are aimed towards those who may feel pressured to vote for Trump by others in their community—or, in some cases, their spouse.
The ad from Clooney, who previously wrote a New York Times op-ed urging Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race, is titled “Remember Who We Love The Most When We Vote.” In the video, potentially conservative-leaning men are encouraged to vote their conscience, perhaps for the women in their lives. Clooney reminds such voters that they don’t have to tell anyone who they voted for: “What happens in the booth stays in the booth. Vote Harris-Walz.”
Roberts, whose ad is called, “Your Vote, Your Choice,” narrates a scenario in which a woman is pressured to vote in the same way as her husband. “In the one place in America where women still have a right to choose, you can vote any way you want and no one will ever know,” Roberts says in the video, which has already earned a scornful response from Trump himself.
Viola Davis
The EGOT-winning actor leant her narration to an ad titled “Mother,” which discusses the legacy of Harris’ late mother, Shyamala Gopalan. “Something cracks open inside you when you become a mother,” Davis says in the video. “You realize long after you’re gone, these children will be your legacy.” Set to Beyoncé’s “Freedom,” which has become a rallying cry for the Harris campaign, Davis recounts Gopalan’s influence on Kamala and her sister Maya Harris, encouraging them to “stand up for others.” Davis concludes: “It’s time for a new generation of leadership, one of optimism and a belief in a better future for all Americans.”
Will Ferrell
The iconic funnyman is the latest celebrity to release an ad on behalf of Kamala Harris. Standing solo in front of a white background and wearing a fetching brown jacket, Ferrell makes a plea to undecided voters considering sitting out this election. “This election is going to be one of the closest in history. Your vote will make the difference,” Ferrell says, before the camera zooms in tight for a closeup. “That means you, Gary,” he continues. He goes on to imitate that imagined reluctant voter. “‘Oh blah blah blah. I’m just one person,’” he whines. But Ferrell is having none of it: “No. Shut the fuck up Gary.”
Ferrell’s politics have been on display as of late. He made a Netflix documentary called Will and Harper about a road trip he took with one of his best friends, former SNL writer Harper Steele, after she came out as a trans woman. He also teamed up with Billy Eichner for a one-off revival of Billy on the Street that cast the two comics as “Loud White Men for Kamala.” In this new campaign ad, he goes on to note that last election, just a few thousand votes kept Trump out of office. “This time, we will hold you personally responsible, Gary.” Ferrell’s message is exceedingly clear: don’t be like Gary. Vote.
Harrison Ford
Harrison Ford wants you to use the force to vote for Harris/Walz. “I’m Harrison Ford, and I’m doing something I never thought I would do,” begins the legendary actor. “Telling people I’ve never met who I’m voting for, and why I think they might do the same.” Ford goes on to slowly but firmly declare that he’s casting his ballot for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the election. The Indiana Jones star is quick to share that he doesn’t agree with all of their policies or think either of them are perfect candidates, but compared to the alternative, he says it’s a no-brainer. “These two people believe in the rule of law. They believe in science. They believe that when you govern you do so for all Americans,“ he continues. “These are people I can get behind.”
Ford continues to address those who may be a bit disillusioned with the state of the union these days. “I’m frustrated with a bunch of things about this country. I’m sure you are too,” he says. “But the other guy? He spent four years turning us against each other while embracing dictators and tyrants around the world.” Ford continues to talk about Trump without ever saying his name: “We don’t need to make America great again. We already are great.” Hey, if there’s anyone who knows about great, it’s the man who brought Han Solo and Indiana Jones to life.
Spike Lee + Stevie Wonder
Leave it to Spike Lee to cinematically capture a moment in history. The filmmaker interviewed the one and only Stevie Wonder about “our sister who’s going to be the next president” for an ad shot in black and white. Lee captures Wonder as he waxes poetic about Kamala Harris while sitting in front of an American flag. “I’m excited,” says Wonder. “I was excited about Kamala years before people knew who she was.” Wonder continues to express his excitement and confidence in a Harris victory. “I’m very happy because I know and believe that she will be the next president of these United States.”
Why does he believe Harris is the right person for the job? “Not to make you guys feel bad, but it takes a woman,” the musician says. “But not just any woman—a wonderful woman. And she has done the work consistently. She’s had humility and compassion consistently.” Even at 74 years old, the legendary songwriter is finding musical inspiration in Harris’s vision for America. “I want to continue to write and be inspired by the very place that has been my inspiration, the various cultures, the various people,” he says. “I’m here because I celebrate both her and the future vice president and their commitment to this country.”
Bruce Springsteen
If you were born in the U.S.A or are a fan of the Bruce Springsteen song, you might be curious who the Boss is voting for. “I’ll be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz,” he says in a campaign ad. Springsteen sits in what appears to be a Jersey diner as he lays into Donald Trump. “Donald Trump doesn’t understand what it means to be American,” he says. “On the other hand, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are committed to a vision of this country that respects and includes everyone. That’s the vision of America I’ve been consistently writing about for 55 years.” You heard the Boss.
