Peter Weber is trading in his pilot wings for some running sneakers. The Bachelor alum is set to run the TCS New York City Marathon, produced by New York Road Runners, this weekend — but it’s hardly the only challenge he’s willingly taken on this year. Weber, who works as a pilot for United Airlines, starred in The Traitors Season 2 — and while he wasn’t the final winner, he did own up to the fact that he did much better in that realm of reality television than he did searching for love on The Bachelor.
Weber became a household name in 2019 when he starred in Hannah Brown‘s season of The Bachelorette. He came in third place, but that didn’t stop him from trying to find the one. Weber later spearheaded his own season of The Bachelor, though his engagement with Hannah Sluss ended after two months.
The reality star, lovingly known to Bachelor Nation as Pilot Pete, busted back onto the reality television scene this year when he starred in The Traitors Season 2. Weber, a tried and true Faithful, quickly formed alliances with his fellow castmates (a.k.a. Peter’s Pals) — and his strategic game plans kept him safe in host Alan Cummings’ Scotland castle until he was ultimately banished in Episode 9.
DECIDER recently got to chat with Weber, who said he’d be down to participate in an “All Stars” season of The Traitors should Peacock ever decide to do one.
“[It’s] just such a fun game. It’s just so mental and strategic and it’s just so different than anything I’d ever done in my entire life,” he said. “And I think I had a lot more success in that aspect of reality TV than looking for love on reality TV. But it’s okay, I found my niche.”
Weber also teased that he recently wrapped filming his next project, which he described as “very strategic” and “adventure-seeking.”
“It was the adventure of a lifetime,” Weber said of the unnamed project. “And I really do believe it’s gonna be the most special thing yet that I’ve been able to be a part of. So I’m looking forward to that.”
In our interview with Weber, he further opened up about his decision to run the NYC Marathon, his time on The Traitors, and what he knows about the game show’s upcoming third season. Check out the full interview below.
DECIDER: You’re gearing up to run the NYC Marathon! Have you ever run a marathon before? What made you decide to do it this year?
PETER WEBER: Funny story. I have run one before. I would never recommend anyone to do it the way I did. It was purely off of a bet with one of my good friends to see who could have the fastest time. And it was my first year in New York City. I just moved here. No training, didn’t prepare at all for it, just said, I’m going to wing it. I got this. [I] didn’t even [have] the right shoes. I didn’t know what I was doing whatsoever. At least I completed it. I got, like, 5:17 in it. And then fast forward a couple of months ago, I was approached by Fabletics to support me running this marathon this year and with New York Road Runners. And it was an immediate yes for me. I was like, I’d absolutely love to [and] this time train [and] actually put my everything into it and see kind of what I was capable of. Have fun with it. So, yeah, this will be my second full and then [I did] a half as well. But yeah, looking forward to Sunday.
What kind of training have you done?
That’s a good question. So I’ve been working with a really great coach, Lance Parker. He’s been my trainer, putting me on runs throughout the last couple of months. Really good. [I’ve also been] working with Megan Monahan. She’s been like a mindset meditation coach as well. Marathon is obviously extremely physical, but I honestly believe it’s so much more mental between the ears. Your body wants to give up so many different points and and your mind is screaming and you just want to give up and throw the towel in. But it’s one of the most beautiful experiences, I think when you push yourself past that and you break through that wall, which is extremely gratifying. And yeah, just putting the work in multiple times a week, doing runs, short runs to long runs, doing track repeats, working on the diet, getting good sleep and just giving it my all.
What was the biggest challenge you encountered during training?
Anything in life, obviously, there’s a lot of obstacles. This time around, I was about a month and a half going through, I was really, really consistent with training and then had this really good opportunity present itself. So I was working on a project for about a month out of the country, completely disconnected from the outside world, but had to obviously maintain my training going on throughout this and couldn’t just let it all go. So being able to kind of overcome that and come up with a plan with my trainer, with Megan, to be able to leave them and not have any communication and get everything done that I had to get done. That was not easy, but they were very flexible with me, which was awesome. And, you know, we’re here and I’m excited. I’m going to do good on Sunday and I can’t wait.
Your fellow Bachelor pals Matt James and Tyler Cameron are also running. Do you think you will all stick together? Who do you think will come in first?
I saw Matt actually. We were at the Seahawks game a couple of weeks ago out in Seattle and we were chatting about it. Matt’s going to kill it. Actually, the year I ran my first one – we all three did it together. They did their run together and I was a couple of heats behind them. But Matt’s been really putting in the work as well. Tyler, too. So, yeah, it’s going to be good to see them out there and have fun and support each other. And I can’t wait.
This isn’t the only challenge you’ve encountered this year. You were also in Season 2 of The Traitors. Have you kept in touch with any of your Peter Pals from the show?
I have, yeah. Bergie [Bergersen] and Trishelle [Cannatella], [Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu]. That was an amazing experience. I had the time of my life filming that. [It was] truly like one of the highlights of my life. [There were] just great friendships that came from that as well. It’s been super cool to support each other in various ways – from a distance sometimes, obviously. Actually Peppermint lives in the city and her and I – we’ve gotten together a bunch and she’s really into Broadway and a lot of shows, so we’ve been able to support each other that way. But actually Alan, too. Alan’s got his bar – Club Cummings – I believe in the Lower East Side so [I] frequent that a little bit. And yeah, it’s a great group of friendships that have come from that and a really cool experience that I look fondly on.
Did you see your nemesis Phaedra Parks compete on Dancing With The Stars before she was eliminated? What did you think of her performance?
I have not been able to watch too much. Again, I was kind of taken out from everything for the last month with no communication. But that was really cool that she was selected for that. We definitely had a rocky road kind of getting through the whole experience. But I think we were able to put everything behind us. And honestly, I love Phaedra. She has a big personality and everything but a great lady and extremely entertaining and so fun to be around. So it was a cool experience for her.
Speaking of Bachelor Nation, Gabby Windey and Wells Adams are on The Traitors Season 3. Did you give either of them any advice before they left for Scotland?
No, I don’t know them. I mean, I know of them but don’t know them personally. I was speaking actually with Dylan Efron, who’s on it, and we spoke a little bit [and I] spoke with one of Dan [Gheesling’s] friends who is going on as well. But [I’m] going to be rooting for them, Bachelor Nation, and hope they do well and I can’t wait to see how they do.
This new season will also consist of Tom Sandoval, Britney Spears’ ex Sam Asghari, some more Real Housewives. What are your predictions for this season? Who do you think will come out on top?
I think that it’s going to be an insane season filled with lots of twists. I can’t wait to see Alan’s wardrobe. He kills it with that. I love him. He’s the ultimate professional, and his role and how he dedicates himself to that is just so fun to watch. But yeah, definitely expect some really, really fun challenges. Lots of drama. It’s going to make me wish I was right back there in the castle playing with them.
If given the opportunity, would you ever pull a Kate Chastain and do it all again?
100%. I would love to play that game again. Hopefully they do, like, an All Stars version or something in a couple of seasons. If they ever asked me, it’d be 100% yes. [It’s] just such a fun game. It’s just so mental and strategic and it’s just so different than anything I’d ever done in my entire life. And I think I had a lot more success in that aspect of reality TV than looking for love on reality TV. But it’s okay, I found my niche. Now, this last project I just did too, is very much like that and very strategic and adventure-seeking. So that’s, I think, what’s in the future for me, if there is anything.
Since you’ve already done The Bachelor and Traitors, are there any other competition shows you’d want to go on?
I will say this last one I did was probably going to be the most special one yet. Just [the] adventure of a lifetime. [I] can’t speak on it really yet. It should be coming out in spring of next year. And other than that – what’s the one that Tyler did?
Special Forces!
I’ve always thought that would be incredible. Just to push yourself in the ultimate way. Honestly, very kind of similar to a marathon and just, like, kind of seeing what you’re made of. That’d be probably top of list for me. If I ever had an opportunity, I’d probably say yes to that.
Are your parents, Barbara and Peter Sr., watching The Golden Bachelorette? If so, do they have any thoughts you can share?
Oh, boy. Honestly, no. I’ll be completely honest. I’ve kind of detached a little bit. I keep up here and there, but [the] honest answer is – you know what’s crazy? I actually really don’t watch that much reality TV. I really don’t. I know that sounds crazy kind of being a part of it, but [in] recent years [I] haven’t been following too much along. [I’m] supporting always, but [it’s kind of] in the past, the rearview mirror kind of thing.
Obviously your life has taken a different path since first going on The Bachelorette back in 2019. What’s been the biggest change for the better?
Opportunities of a lifetime that I never could have imagined have been presented to me, and it just has given me an insane sense of gratitude [and] pinch-me moments. [I’ve] been able to just meet so many incredible people and see so many insane parts of the world and just and partake in really, really cool opportunities – that’s really, really been life-changing and something that’s just been really fun. Honestly, frankly, it’s just [as] basic as that. [I’m] very, very grateful for my experience on that show and the doors that it’s opened up for me. I was always going to obviously, stay focused in my career. That’s my passion – flying. And I was never going to leave that. But it’s been really cool that I’ve had a lot of flexibility with my job to still take advantage of some other opportunities that only have come because of my experience in that. And even though I didn’t find what I was ultimately looking for in that experience, I’ve never once felt any feeling of regret going through that or a sense of hopelessness or why can’t I find someone or anything like that. The eternal optimist kind of thing. I’m always looking forward to what’s coming. And yeah, I think [I have] just a lot of gratitude looking back on it.
What’s next for you? Aside from the secret project you’ve already teased, do you have any other endeavors in the works?
I’m actually going to be, career-wise, going to be transferring out to L.A. for flying and I’m gonna still be living in New York, but going to go out to L.A. in January and have an opportunity to go fly with my brother. He flies for United as well, based out of L.A. So we’ll be flying together, a lot of cool international routes. That’ll be amazing. Obviously looking forward to the marathon on Sunday. That’s going to be incredible. And then, yeah, I’m really, really excited for this new project to come out. It was the adventure of a lifetime. And I really do believe it’s gonna be the most special thing yet that I’ve been able to be a part of. So I’m looking forward to that. And yeah, I’m just grateful to be working with Fabletics and running along with Achilles as well in the marathon this year – and New York Road Runners. So lots of exciting stuff and [I’m] very grateful.
