The ad from Elon Musk’s PAC begins, “Kamala Harris is a C Word.”
“You heard that right. A big ole C Word,” continues the ad, released last week on Mr. Musk’s social-media platform X.
After a few more seconds, the ad labels Vice President Harris a “communist.” But the setup is an obvious play on a far more vulgar term that begins with the same letter — an insult against women that is one of the most obscene words in American English.
One version of the ad, first posted by Mr. Musk’s group on Friday evening, remained active on Tuesday, with more than 430,000 views. Neither Mr. Musk nor his political operation, called America PAC, responded to questions about the ad.
Mr. Musk has become one of Donald J. Trump’s most fervent backers in the last few weeks, donating more than $118 million to support him and barnstorming Pennsylvania on his behalf. Mr. Musk could have much to gain from a Trump presidency, since Mr. Trump has promised to give him a role in government where Mr. Musk could oversee the agencies that regulate his businesses.
But this winking play on words seems unlikely to help Mr. Trump with female voters. Polls have shown them to be moving sharply to Ms. Harris: a recent poll by The New York Times and Siena College showed her leading Mr. Trump by 16 points among likely women voters.
