Whoopi Goldberg pulled out all of the receipts this morning. The longtime View co-host got busy fact-checking claims about the show after it came up in conversation between Joe Rogan and Donald Trump on the former’s podcast.
Trump, who was a guest on Friday’s (Oct. 25) episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, chatted with the host about his 2011 visit to The View, which Rogan incorrectly claimed took place in 2015 or 2016, when he was first running for president.
While Rogan said The View talked about Trump “in such a favorable light” during his 2011 appearance on the show, Goldberg remembered the day a little differently. Goldberg broke down Trump and Rogan’s chat by playing brief clips, then giving her own analysis.
“There’s a lot of fake news coming up, so we’re gonna clear some of it up as it happens,” she said, while pointing out Rogan’s incorrect timeline of when Trump’s visit to The View took place. Cheerfully calling out, “Next!” she then played a segment of Rogan’s show in which he marvels at how The View panel “all loved” Trump when he came by. With a sigh, Goldberg directed The View audience to watch the “actual appearance” from Trump’s 2011 visit, in which Goldberg looks unimpressed while sitting next to Barbara Walters, who is introducing Trump to The View stage.
After the clip wrapped, Goldberg recalled, “Barbara was her usual polite self, as she was with every guest. But did I look warm and fuzzy? Was that a warm and fuzzy welcome from me?”
When the laughter around the Hot Topics table died down, Goldberg explained, “Because I respect Barbara, you know, she said be polite to guests no matter what— and for the most part, I got through it. I did it, like I do now. But here’s where they really messed up.”
Playing the soundbite of Rogan saying The View talked about Trump “in such a favorable light,” Goldberg paused before saying, “Honey, Joe, I think you missed this part,” then played a tense exchange between the co-hosts and Trump after he promoted his racist theory about Barack Obama‘s birth certificate.
After the clip concluded, Goldberg said, “This show has allowed all kinds of people to come on. People we agree with, people we don’t agree with. I’ve not been a fan of this man’s. I don’t like how he talks to us, I don’t like how he talks to the nation. So I have not really had much to say until he started running for president. Then I could say everything I needed to say. My face said everything else.”
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
