Former President Donald Trump responded Wednesday to President Biden suggesting that he should be locked up with less than two weeks to go until Election Day.
Trump, 78, argued that the 81-year-old presidentâs verbal slip proves his claim that the Harris-Biden administrationâs Justice Department has been engaging in âelection interferenceâ by bringing charges against him during his presidential campaign.
ââWe gotta lock him upâ â I told you â he said that,â Trump said at a rally in Duluth, Ga., partially quoting Bidenâs stunning remark Tuesday.
âThen he denied it â âOh, oh, oh, I didn’t mean that, ah, ahâ â because he’s not legally allowed to say â he can’t say that,â the former president argued.
Biden backtracked seconds after the slip, as the audience in a Concord, N.H., Democratic campaign office cheered.
âPolitically, lock him up â lock him out, thatâs what weâve got to do,â the president clarified.
Trump isnât buying it.
âI’ve been telling you that it’s election interference,â he said. âThis is all it is. He said, âWe gotta lock him up.â This is illegal. It should cause cases.â
â[T]hese are crooked people. This is all election interference,â Trump reiterated, after claiming that heâs been indicted more than notorious gangster Al Capone.
â[T]hese lawsuits are being run by the Department of Justice, the FBI â Biden is behind it all, believe it or not, and he proved that yesterday with his stupid statement,â the Republican nominee for president added.
However, Trump noted that his popularity has only increased amid the legal cases against him.
âIt’s crazy, right? Because the people got it,â Trump said.
The 45th president was convicted in May by a Manhattan jury of 34 criminal counts of falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels in the final weeks of the 2016 campaign.
His sentencing in that case, which was brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, an elected Democrat, is scheduled for Nov. 26.
