Billionaire Warren Buffet revealed Wednesday that he will not endorse Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Donald Trump ahead of the 2024 election.
Buffett, one of the worldâs richest people, had backed Democrats in three of the last four presidential elections.
A memo posted on the 94-year-old businessmanâs website warned of âfraudulent claimsâ on social media that Buffett, the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, had endorsed a political candidate.
âIn light of the increased usage of social media, there have been numerous fraudulent claims regarding Mr. Buffettâs endorsement of investment products as well as his endorsement and support of political candidates,â the brief statement read.
âMr. Buffett does not currently and will not prospectively endorse investment products or endorse and support political candidates,â it concluded.
Buffett, who is known as the “Oracle of Omaha,” is one of the most accomplished and influential investors in American history.
He is estimated to be worth nearly $145 billion, good for the No. 6 spot on the Forbes âReal-time billionairesâ list.
The Nebraska nativeâs non-endorsement follows his public support for Hillary Clintonâs 2016 presidential bid and former President Barack Obamaâs 2012 and 2008 White House campaigns.
Buffett did not endorse President Biden or Trump in the 2020 race.
The investorâs statement comes a day after the New York Times reported that fellow billionaire Bill Gates contributed $50 million to a political group backing Harris for president.
The Microsoft founder, who has an estimated net worth of $162 billion, is among 81 billionaires bankrolling Harrisâ White House run, according to Forbes.
Meanwhile, Trump has 50 billionaires supporting his White House bid, most notably, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.
