Victoria’s Secret is ready to make a comeback.
On Tuesday night, the lingerie brand hosted its 2024 fashion show in New York City. Iconic models strutted alongside legendary performers like Cher.
The event, hosted at Brooklyn Navy Yard’s Duggal Greenhouse, also marked the brand’s first major show in six years, following a canceled event in 2019 and a documentary-style replacement in 2023.
It’s one of many attempts Victoria’s Secret has recently made to bank on nostalgic shoppers.
But even if you watched the runway return, you might have missed some of the night’s details. Here’s a look at those moments, from wardrobe mishaps to model reunions.
For the first time, wings weren’t reserved for Victoria’s Secret Angels.
Angels were once the stars of Victoria’s Secret.
The brand first introduced a few exemplary models in a 1997 photo shoot for its “Angels” underwear collection and later expanded the group into a franchise of marketing supermodels.
Members of the elite group typically earned the title after years of working with Victoria’s Secret, and they were the only ones to wear wings onstage.
But Victoria’s Secret disbanded its famous Angels in 2021 and replaced them with a diverse collective of spokespeople.
So, for the 2024 fashion show, a wide variety of models and even performers like Tyla got to wear the coveted wings onstage.
This latest effort from Victoria’s Secret seems to emphasize the brand’s newer initiative of inclusivity, which could be a factor in the brand surpassing quarterly revenue estimates in Q2 this year.
Kate Moss and her daughter Lila both walked the runway in contrasting lingerie.
The mother-daughter duo walked separately but still made a splash. It was the first Victoria’s Secret runway appearance for both women.
Kate, 50, wore a $150 lace slip over an $80 bodysuit, while Lila, 22, donned a $75 embroidered bra and matching mauve pieces.
The younger Moss also wore her first name and the Victoria’s Secret initials across her shoulders in place of wings.
Victoria’s Secret debuted its first atelier collection on the runway.
The intimates brand recently tapped Joseph Altuzarra to be its first designer in residence, tasked with creating ready-to-wear pieces beyond lingerie and, therefore, expanding the range of potential Victoria’s Secret customers.
Tuesday’s runway showcased his first collection, which includes bras, satin shorts, a catsuit, a lace slip, underwear, and corsets, each retailing between $19 and $160.
Models like Kate Moss, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Jill Kortleve wore his designs during the show.
Most pieces seen on the runway were shoppable on Amazon.
Victoria’s Secret has previously sold runway replicas on its website following its annual fashion show. But this year, shoppers could also purchase the brand’s lingerie on Amazon.
The undergarments brand first joined forces with the commerce giant in 2023, offering a wide range of intimates that could be shipped quickly to anyone with Prime memberships.
In doing so, the iconic mall brand became even more accessible to longtime and new shoppers.
But the retailers expanded their partnership this year by streaming the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show exclusively on Prime Video.
While watching, viewers could search “shop the show” on their Amazon apps to buy the exact items they were seeing.
Iconic models like Adriana Lima and Eva Herzigová returned to the Victoria’s Secret stage.
Most Victoria’s Secret fans remember the day Adriana Lima retired from the brand’s fashion show in 2018. But the emotional runway moment wasn’t actually her last.
Lima, 43, returned to the Victoria’s Secret stage on Tuesday — as did Tyra Banks, 50, Eva Herzigová, 51, and Alessandra Ambrosio, 43.
Ambrosio last walked in 2017, Banks retired from the brand’s show in 2005, and Herzigová last appeared in 2001.
The show marked the first time Victoria’s Secret hired models in their 40s and 50s to walk the runway.
Dutch model Doutzen Kroes got stuck in the new stage.
While walking down the runway, Doutzen Kroes found her pink heel stuck in the mechanical stage. After quickly removing the shoe and putting it back on, the model strutted the rest of the catwalk without a hitch.
Many viewers have criticized the production of the 2024 show, saying its staging, lighting, and effects looked cheap in quality. A representative for Victoria’s Secret didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on the production.
The brand likely had a smaller budget than in years past. It previously said in earnings reports that its net sales, which reached $7.5 billion between February 2019 and February 2020, plummeted to $5.4 billion during the same timeframe the following year.
Those sales then failed to surpass $6.7 billion between 2021 and 2023.
Ashley Graham made a special request for her outfit.
Victoria’s Secret widely marketed its 2024 show as being made by and for women. That was especially true for models and their wardrobes.
Ashley Graham told People that when she made a request to wear more clothes, the brand obliged.
“The first thing they gave me was this tiny, tiny little underwear, and I said, ‘Hello, I just had three children,’” she told People before the show. “Even though it was like two years ago, but I was like, ‘Is there any more we can put on?’ So then I got a bodysuit, and I feel really sexy in it, and then when the wings came out, that’s when I was like, ‘Oh yeah, I feel like an Angel. This is hot.’”
Victoria’s Secret welcomed new models of all ages to the stage.
In the past, coveted runway spots were reserved for young, up-and-coming models. But that changed this year.
Legendary model Carla Bruni, 56, made her Victoria’s Secret debut in a $130 lace catsuit, a $60 bra, and a $90 corset.
She joked with Page Six that the appearance would be her first “and probably last” Victoria’s Secret runway.
“At my age?!” Bruni said to the publication. “It’s very exciting and it’s very overwhelming, really. Because, you know, no one gets used to being on a runway no matter how long.”
