During the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys game, star defensive end Aidan Hutchison was carted off after suffering an apparent leg injury. He was down for a few minutes before being taken away.
While going in for a sack of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, Hutchinson appeared to injure his left leg. Hutchinson remained on the ground after the play and immediately took off his gloves.
The training staff came on the field to attend to Hutchinson, who was later carted off the field with his leg in an air cast. Players from both the Lions and Cowboys were seen showing support to Hutchinson before he was carted away. Hutchinson has been ruled out of the game.
The Lions held a 34-6 lead at the time Hutchinson went down because of injury. Hutchinson had three total tackles, one sack, one tackles for loss, and three hits on the quarterback before leaving because of injury.
Hutchinson was in the middle of what appeared to be his best season since entering the NFL in 2022. Through the first five weeks of the season, Hutchinson led the NFL with 6.5 sacks, even with the Lions having a bye already in Week 5.
Through the Lions’ first four games of the season, Hutchinson had recorded 16 total tackles, 6.5 sacks, six tackles for loss, and one forced fumble.
Hutchinson recorded his most dominant game of the season in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when he sacked Baker Mayfield 4.5 times and forced one fumble. Hutchinson came up just short of the franchise single-game sack record in that game.
The 24-year-old has continued to improve after a breakout year a season ago. In 2023, Hutchinson recorded double-digit sacks for the first time, recording 51 total tackles, 11.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and one interception while making his first career Pro Bowl.
Last season, Hutchinson also helped the Lions reach the NFC Championship Game for the first time in three decades, recording three sacks during the postseason.
Hutchinson has not missed a game in his career to this point. He is one of the team’s captains, and the leader of a defense that ranks No. 4 in the NFL against the run, and top-10 in points allowed per game.
The Lions drafted Hutchinson with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Hutchinson, who was born in the state of Michigan and attended Michigan University, stayed home and remains a hometown favorite. He was a unanimous All-American and the Big Ten Most Valuable Player during his time at Michigan.
