Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday described âwhatâs at stakeâ in the 2024 election in notably vague terms â telling Arizona voters that âitâs packed with some stuff!” before bursting out in laughter.
Harris, who appeared to be speaking without a teleprompter, began her remarks at the Scottsdale campaign event by telling supporters that as Election Day nears, Americaâs status as a ârole modelâ for democracy âweighs on me sometimes.â
About five minutes into her speech, however, the vice president decided to articulate the importance of the presidential election in even more plain terms.
âSo when we think about what’s at stake in this election â well, it’s packed with some stuff!â Harris said, cracking up immediately afterwards.
âIt’s packed with some fundamental stuff,â Harris continued.
âI say rather articulately,â she added, seemingly realizing how ineloquent the remark came out.
The crowd, however, cheered on her oversimplification.
Social media users were far less forgiving.
âWorst presidential candidate perhaps everâ¦â Fox News contributor Joe Concha wrote on X, sharing a clip of the viral moment.
Former Trump adviser Steve Cortes tweeted that it was âbrutal to watchâ the clip.Â
âKamala Harris without a teleprompter is the Democrat Partyâs worst nightmare,â he added.
Another X user described the vice presidentâs speech as âPTA President level orationâ and several pointed out the âmaniacal laughterâ and âcacklingâ that followed the remark.
Later in her speech, Harris pledged to âcreate a bipartisan councilâ of advisers that would give her feedback on policy, if elected.
“I don’t want any âYes’ people,â she said. âI want people to come in … and kick the tires on ideas.”
The event was attended by several Arizona Republicans backing Harris in the election, including Mesa Mayor John Giles.
