Jennifer Lopez is living her best life. After filing for divorce from Ben Affleck on August 20 after two years of marriage, the singer and actress shared a major update about her dating life.
In a conversation with Nikki Glaser for Interview magazine, Lopez, 55, revealed that she is single and loving it. She also said she’s not looking to get back in the dating game.
“Now I’m excited…,” Lopez said. “Yes, I’m not looking for anybody, because everything that I’ve done over the past 25, 30 years, being in these different challenging situations, what can I f**king do when it’s just me flying on my own…what if I’m just free?”
While Lopez seems to have been enjoying the single life, she explained to Glaser, 40, that it isn’t as simple as she initially believed it would be. Lopez admitted that she still feels like she has some work to do.
“The work is figuring yourself out,” Lopez said. “It’s looking back at the feelings underneath and the belief systems that we have about ourselves that make us make certain choices and create certain patterns in our life.”
She continued, explaining that doing the inner work is “f**king hard.”
“It feels lonely, unfamiliar, scary,” Lopez said. “It feels sad. It feels desperate. But when you sit in those feelings and go, ‘These things are not going to kill me,’ it’s like actually, I am capable of joy and happiness all by myself… Being in a relationship doesn’t define me.”
Amid the divorce, Lopez has been keeping busy. Back in September, Lopez attended the premiere of her upcoming movie Unstoppable at Toronto International Film Festival. Unstoppable tells the story of wrestler Anthony Robles, and in the movie, Lopez plays Anthony’s mother, Judy Robles.
During that weekend, Lopez was seen chatting with Matt Damon — who, alongside her soon-to-be-ex-husband Affleck, is a producer on the film. Though Damon reportedly shut down any mention of Affleck, Lopez appeared to have had a good time, and the conversation was seemingly comforting, according to sources who were present.
Unstoppable will arrive in U.S. theaters on Friday, December 6.
