Wanting to be the friendly face of the neighborhood, one dog couldn’t wait to extend a welcome to two new members of the street in a precious video.
Dixie the golden retriever is constantly on alert for her neighbors. She hangs out in the fenced-in front yard, happily greeting those who come and go and even accepting a daily treat from a neighbor. After noticing two new neighbors that moved a few doors down her street in Washington state, Dixie immediately got to work on her welcome.
In a September 24 TikTok video shared by user @disshoeciating, Dixie eagerly stood at the edge of the yard with her two front paws up on the fence. She looked out toward the direction of the new neighbors. But instead of sending them a smile, the way she typically greets others coming to the yard, she remained serious. She wanted to sniff out the situation and get a good read on the new residents. Luckily, they seemed to pass the test.
The camera panned over to the other house and revealed that the new neighbors were two dogs staring right back at Dixie. They both stood on the second-floor deck. One dog had its paws over the railing and barked a “hello,” while the other looked back at Dixie in a similar manner, skeptical but interested.
Dixie didn’t back down when the Bernese mountain dog barked at her. She stayed calm. Deep down, she knew these were about to be her favorite neighbors yet.
Considering these two breeds, there should be no doubt these dogs will get along. Golden retrievers and Bernese mountain dogs are known as friendly breeds. But introducing dogs, no matter how friendly, still requires the proper steps to make sure it goes smoothly.
