The Las Vegas Raiders have been bracing themselves for the reality of having to trade star wide receiver Davante Adams for some time now. Adams officially asked for a trade out of Las Vegas earlier this week and the franchise has started the process of talking with opposing teams.
There is a belief that Adams prefers to go to a team where he knows the starting quarterback, namely New York Jets or New Orleans Saints. But between all the interested teams, there is one specific organization that Adams prefers.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Adams wants to play for the Jets if he has a choice. But he is also open to being dealt to six other teams.
“New York is where the Raiders star wants to play after informing the team on Monday he prefers to be traded, multiple sources say. But Adams has not demanded as much from Las Vegas, and this is not a scenario like Rodgers’ in 2023 when the quarterback informed the Packers he would only play for the Jets.”
“In fact, according to sources informed of Adams’ thinking, he is open to playing for several other teams. The New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys and perhaps the San Francisco 49ers are among teams that either have inquired about the six-time Pro Bowler or are places Adams would be happy landing.”
If Adams were to be traded to the Jets, it would be a reunion with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers and Adams played together with the Green Bay Packers for many years, becoming one of the best duos in the NFL.
New York has seen its share of issues this season and adding Adams would help their offensive attack. It could give the Jets a lethal wide receiver duo with him and former first-round pick Garrett Wilson.
Rodgers has looked good this season after coming back from an Achilles injury. Getting Adams into the fold would vastly help the chances of the Jets this year and would be the definition of a blockbuster trade.
The biggest issue with a Jets move is that Rodgers is 40 years old. He may only have another season or two left in the tank so Adams could be left in New York without his quarterback.
A move to the Saints would provide a reunion with Derek Carr from their time together with the Raiders and in college. New Orleans makes a little more sense on the Raiders’ side of things as it would send Adams to the NFC.
Either way, his time with Las Vegas seems to be coming to a close. We should know more about a trade coming together in the coming week or two but Adams has likely taken his last snap as a member of the Raiders.
