A mom-of-six has shared footage of what happened when she saw her neighbor struggling to get an important delivery indoors.
In an ideal world, people everywhere would “love thy neighbor” by providing support and even friendship wherever possible, but the reality is decidedly different. In an era of contrasting political opinions and social media bubbles, many are preferring to avoid rather than help their fellow residents.
A survey of 2,000 U.S. homeowners conducted by OnePoll on behalf of homes.com found that as many as 40 percent of respondents admitted they try to avoid their neighbors where possible.
Jorgi Lee in New Zealand, however, still believes in the old way of doing things. When she saw her neighbor across the street struggling to stack a delivery of firewood indoors as the night drew in, she decided to take action to help.
As a mother of six, she was able to deploy her kids to provide assistance with the task at hand. The resulting scene was captured on camera by Lee, who shared the footage to her TikTok under the handle jorgileee.
“When you see your neighbor struggling to stack firewood so you send your six kids in to get the job done,” an onscreen caption reads.
In the video, her kids can be seen going back and forth from the log pile into the house, turning a job that could have taken her neighbor several long hours into one that was likely done within half an hour at most.
Lee shared the clip with an obvious sense of pride at how her family stepped up for someone else in the community. “That’s just how we do it here in NZ,” she wrote alongside the video.
Her family’s efforts did not go unnoticed, with the resulting video amassing over 600,000 views and a glut of comments from appreciative viewers.
One user wrote: “Awesome, I think as a country we have forgotten about community. What an amazing thing to see.”
Another commented: “As someone who has had to stack firewood by myself, those six kids were definitely needed and your neighbor is 100 percent grateful!”
A third said: “You’re a good parent, teach them young,” with a fourth adding: “It’s nice to be nice.”
Elsewhere, one wrote: “All of us who have ever come home and had to stack firewood appreciate that you sent your babies to your neighbor’s rescue – thank you,” with another stating: “This is how we used to do it back in the 80s. Community looking out and helping each other. Thank you good neighbor/mom.”
