Whoopi Goldberg is offering Zachary Levi a little history lesson. The View co-host responded on this morning’s episode after Levi endorsed Donald Trump and claimed that his acting career could suffer because of his conservative politics.
Levi, who is best known for his role in Shazam!, previously supported Robert F. Kennedy Jr. before Kennedy dropped out of the presidential race. The Marvel star appeared at a Trump campaign event in Michigan on Saturday (Sept. 29), where he said, in part, “I do believe, of the two choices that we have â and we only have two â Donald Trump, President Trump, is the man that can get us there,â per The Hill.
In a clip from the Michigan event played on The View this morning, Levi also said his endorsement could negatively affect his standing in Hollywood: “Within my industry, as you can probably imagine, Hollywood is a very, very liberal town, and this very well could constitute career suicide,” he said.
Goldberg was visibly unimpressed with Levi’s words. Letting out a sigh after the clip ended, she said, “So, OK. That’s not necessarily true. From the beginning of Hollywood, it’s always been a very right-leaning town, but I know you don’t know much about the Hollywood history, so let me school you.”
With that, she went on to explain, “We are â like America is â we’re mixed. We’re a mixed bunch, and sometimes it may seem like there’s more Democrats and sometimes it may seem like there’s more Republicans, but the truth of the matter is, very few people seem to bite it because they’re Republican.”
She then named Jon Voight and Dennis Quaid as examples of conservative actors who are regularly working in Hollywood.
“People are working. Stop that! It’s more B.S., and it’s unnecessary,” she declared.
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
