Rape is rising in the Big Apple, up 13% so far this year over last, according to the NYPD.
Reports of the crime surged to 1,218 through Sept. 22, compared to 1,077 incidents in the same period last year, NYPD data show.
The number of rapes increased by 27% over the past 28 days, to 157 from 124 in the same period in 2023, the stats show.
Most other violent crimes are down, including murder, which has dropped 10% so far this year from 302 to 271; as well as the number of shooting victims, down 5% from 870 to 830, the data show.
Rape arrests are up 2% so far this year over last, but down 26% from the same point five years ago.
