Drew Barrymore has been misled by several men she’s met on dating apps. But one guy who pretended to be a cobbler might just be the most bizarre.
On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Ross Mathews and comedian Jo Koy joined Barrymore at the Drew’s News desk to go over all the latest headlines, including one about the “most romantic place in Brooklyn.”
According to a New York Post story, singles are lining up to have their photos taken and hung up on a wall with index cards stating their names, what they’re looking for in a partner and fun facts about themselves. Organizers are then passing along their information to potential suitors.
Barrymore and Koy were infatuated by the “old school” method of meeting people — especially given the fact that online dating increases the risk of getting catfished.
The actress, for her part, has encountered her fair share of dating app blunders.
“I can’t tell you how many dates I went on from the dating app and the guy walked in and I was like, ‘Oh, God. You’re 10 years older,’” she said, before recalling one of the strangest lies a man once told her.
“I also met a guy on a dating app who told me this backstory,” she explained. “And I said, ‘Oh, that backstory’s really charming. You were, like, a cobbler in this town? How interesting.’ And he goes, ‘No, I just made that up.’”
The craziest part? Barrymore believed him.
“I bought it, too,” she admitted. “I was like, ‘Oh! A cobbler!’”
This isn’t the first time someone has tried to deceive Barrymore on a dating app. The talk show host revealed in a January episode of The Drew Barrymore Show that a man once told her he was the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams — but he was actually just a “musician who thought he was being cute.”
“I was like, ‘I hate you. You [are] pithy, deceiving, playful. You’ve made me feel stupid. I don’t know who you are. I feel so dumb. Why did we have to get off on this foot? I hate you!’” she said at the time.
The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
