Former President Donald Trump narrowly avoided harm after an incident involving gunshots at the Trump International Golf Course in Florida. The event, which took place shortly before 14:00 EST on Sunday, saw the quick response of Secret Service agents who managed to neutralize the threat without injury to Trump.
Former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick summed up many people’s feelings in a single word on her Instagram story, simply stating, “Wow.”
The suspect, armed with a rifle, pointed his weapon at the golf course where Trump was present. The Secret Service responded instantaneously, firing several shots at the individual, who attempted to flee before being apprehended.
The man is now in custody, and his weapon has been successfully recovered. The Secret Service confirmed they are investigating what they termed a “protective incident” involving Trump.
Following the incident, Trump sent an email to his supporters to assure them of his well-being. “I’m safe and well,” he wrote, adding a statement of defiance: “Nothing will slow me down. I will never surrender!”
Patrick has not been afraid to speak out on her political views during the current Presidential Campaign. Just this week, Patrick accused Vice President Kamala Harris of lying after allegedly changing her stance on the gun buyback program, as Newsweek Sports previously reported, she posted to her Instagram Story:
“Just one of many lies.”
The former driver has also explained her political stance in more detail, as reported by The Spun:
“Here is where I stand with SOME current issues and politics. I am not a liberal. I am somewhere between republican and independent.
“I think our country should be run by someone that knows business and has integrity. I believe we should be able to speak freely.
“I love this country, and I have lived in other places. I believe when people of different opinions speak face to face, we realize we are more similar than different.
“I don’t believe everything anyone says. I have been very torn over the years if I should give a [crap] about politics or just live the life I want as an example. I have been doing the latter. The reaction today is definitely interesting… since all I said was, I love this country.”
Patrick has had an incredible career in motorsports as the most successful woman in American open-wheel racing. She was also the first female driver to win an IndyCar race. Now, she has moved her efforts into media roles with Sky Sports and NBC Sports as well as hosting a podcast, Pretty Intense.’
