Those Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez reunion photos may not paint a completely accurate picture.
On September 14, the exes were photographed in public for the first time since the 55-year-old singer filed for divorce from the 52-year-old actor in late August. The former couple were seen with their children outside of The Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles, with Affleck dressed in a blue button down and matching Nike sneakers while Lopez wore a long-sleeve black crop top and high-waisted denim bell-bottoms.
DeuxMoi was one of the first celebrity gossip platforms to share the paparazzi photos on Instagram—and commenters had a lot to say about Affleck’s body language in the second slide, which shows the Good Will Hunting star leaning towards his ex-wife with both arms thrown backwards. “I know a lot of the online chatter about these two is very anti JLO but I don’t like his energy and his aggressive body language and I never have,” one popular comment read. “That 2nd picture stresses me out just looking at it.”
However, according to DeuxMoi, these photos don’t tell the whole story. Whomever runs their Instagram account replied to multiple comments, revealing they omitted photos that included the couple’s children. In many of those photos, they say Affleck was smiling.
“He wasn’t mad. There’s pics of him smiling but the kids are in them too,” DeuxMoi replied to one commenter. When another user mentioned his “aggro” body language in slide two, Deux Moi responded with a shrug emoji, writing, “Maybe aggro is his permanent state…I’m just saying there are a lot of pics of him smiling but you could see the kids in them so we didn’t post.”
While The Daily Mail shared multiple photos of Affleck smiling during the same outing, the publication still described his interaction with Lopez as “tense.” The Daily Mail also noted that Lopez wore her engagement ring on her pinky finger.
However this outing went, these photos come after multiple reports claimed Affleck’s “moody” nature contributed to their split. One source recently told People that Jennifer Lopez spent “a lot of time making sure Ben was happy and had everything he needed.” The source continued, “Friends constantly reminded her that she’s not responsible for his feelings. He’s very moody and dark at times.”
Meanwhile, a source allegedly close to Ben Affleck’s ex-wife Jennifer Garner claimed the actor “doesn’t have good coping skills” and “gets easily frustrated and tends to be moody.”

“The way she cared for him was almost childlike.”
Of course, Ben Affleck’s facial expressions have made headlines so many times that “Sad Affleck” has become a well-known internet meme. In March 2023, the actor told Jimmy Kimmel that he has “a very unhappy-looking resting face,” though he later explained that gets particularly frustrated with paparazzi when he’s with his children.
“People see me and they’re like, ‘Why is this dude always mad?’ Because somebody has their camera sticking in my face,’” he said on Kevin Hart’s talk show, Hart to Heart in June 2024, per People. “I don’t mind you taking my picture about a club, a premiere, whatever. My wife, I don’t give a fuck. Go ahead. Knock yourself out. I don’t notice you…My children, that’s a different thing.”
