The Pittsburgh Steelers will take on the Denver Broncos in their Week 2 matchup on Sunday. The Steelers will look to move to 2-0 for the first time since 2020, and they’ll look to do so with Justin Fields under center.

Head coach Mike Tomlin named Fields the starting quarterback in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons. Although Wilson was named the starter to begin the season, a calf injury kept him out of their Week 1 win.
We’re only a day away from Week 2, and Wilson’s status still remains questionable. Tomlin provided an update to the media and said if his availability is questionable, then he will unlikely be a starter against the Broncos.
#Steelers coach Mike Tomlin tells reporters that the team is listing Russell Wilson (calf) as questionable for Sunday, but added: “If his availability is questionable, then starting is less so.”
Sounds like another week of Justin Fields starting against the #Broncos.

Fields led the Steelers to victory last week as Wilson was nursing his calf injury.
NFL writer Grant Gordon said Wilson has progressed well from his injury.
“Due to a calf injury that’s lingered from training camp into the regular season, Wilson missed the Steelers’ Week 1 win over the Atlanta Falcons, with Justin Fields getting the start. At the onset of the week, Tomlin said the team was preparing as if Fields would be the starter, but through a week of practice, Wilson has shown enough improvement that it could result in him getting the start against the host Broncos, who gave up a massive haul of players and draft picks to acquire Wilson ahead of the 2022 season.”
Wilson is doing all he can to be out there against his former team, with which he spent the last two seasons. From the start, Wilson’s tenure in Denver was a disaster.
The 35-year-old recorded an 11-19 record, completed 589 passes, completed 63.3 percent of his passes, 6,594 yards, 42 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions with a 90.9 passing rating.
Russell struggled mightily under head coach Nathaniel Hackett in 2022, and although he improved in 2023 under head coach Sean Payton, he and Payton never saw eye to eye. Ultimately, Wilson was benched in the last two games of the 2023 season and was released this past offseason before landing with Pittsburgh.
Wilson signed a five-year, $242 million contract with the Broncos ahead of the 2022 NFL season. Now that he is no longer in Denver, the contract still stands. The Broncos will pay Wilson a $39 million guaranteed salary for 2024 to walk away.
Wilson is now looking to redeem himself with a new squad. It’s uncertain when we will get our first look at him in Pittsburgh, but he is doing his best to be on the field for Week 2.
The Steelers are road favorites with a -2.5 spread, according to ESPN Bet.
