A 46-year-old teacher was arrested after allegedly putting a 5-year-old boy in a headlock at an Upper Manhattan elementary school on Monday, police and sources said.
The shocking incident at PS 153 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Elementary School took place shortly before 1:30 pm, sending the injured student to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, the sources said.
The teacher, Anthony Wicks, was taken into custody and charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child, police said.
It is not immediately known what sparked the alleged assault.
He is only the latest Big Apple educator to be accused of attacking a youngster in a public school.
In September, a coach at Brooklyn’s James Madison High School was charged with assault for allegedly slamming a 14-year-old student’s head into a stairwell wall.
Coach Nicholas Nugent allegedly flew into a rage when the victim dozed off during a video review.
In March 2023, a 33-year-old teacher at the David N. Dinkins School in Jamaica was arrested on assault charges for allegedly hitting an 8-year-old student.
